Why do Firefighters climb?
Each year firefighters from
across the country join their Chicago-area
brethren at the "Hustle Up the Hancock" to honor
the 343 fallen firefighters who gave their lives
in the 9/11 World Trade Center Disaster.
Can my firehouse have a separate team?
Individual firehouses can form their own team.
For example, Naperville Firefighters can form a "Naperville
Firefighters Team." Individual teams receive benefits including
a team packet mailing and a team photo. If a firefighter would
like to climb, but his/her firehouse is not forming a team, then
he/she can join the "Firefighters for New York" team. All
firefighters will climb together at a time to be determined. (All teams,
including firehouse teams, participating in Hustle Up the
Hancock pay a $125 team fee.)
Can my friends & family members climb with
me? Family and friends are welcome and encouraged to participate in the event and can join a firefighter team during the General Registration Process. General Registration opens on Tuesday, November 1st at 8:00 am CST. Be sure family and friends register early on Tuesday, November 1st - the event sells out quickly. Once General Registration closes to
the general public, only firefighters can join firefighter
teams. **Please note
that these held climbing spaces are for firefighters only, so be
courteous of your fellow firefighters by ensuring the spaces are
used only by firefighters.
What if I miss online registration? All
Firefighters who miss the online registration
deadline must then register by mail. Climbing spots are available on a first come,
first served basis. The earlier you send it in,
the more likely you will have a chance of
getting registered. All firefighter
registration forms must be received by Friday,
December 16, 2011.
